Ama Asantewa Diaka is a multifaceted storyteller, performer, visual designer, and entrepreneur whose work is deeply rooted in community and cultural transformation. Known professionally as Poetra Asantewa, she is a genre-defying poet, singer, and sound artist whose work blends neo-soul tunes, pointed social critique, and heartfelt vocalization to create transformative art that speaks to the universality of human experience. Ama is the author of three critically acclaimed books: You too will know me, Woman, eat me whole, and Someone birthed them broken. Her writing and performances explore themes of identity, gender, and social justice, earning her recognition as a leading voice in contemporary African literature and performance art. Ama is the director of Black Girls Glow, an arts nonprofit she founded in 2017 dedicated to empowering women and fostering transformative opportunities for their artistic growth. She is also the founder of Tampered Press, an independent Ghana-based publisher focused on amplifying African voices through books by and about Africans, and Yobbings, a black culture-inspired design company. Ama is a partner at Aayalolo Foundry, a design company that developed Ga Maamli, Ghana’s first Google font. Her work has earned her notable recognition, including being selected as one of the artists leading transformational efforts in gender equity at the 2021 Generation Equality Forum, for her work with Black Girls Glow. She was also honored as one of six African artists featured in Hennessy’s All I Need campaign, which celebrates artists creating meaningful change through their craft.
